Hello friends! I’ve spent a career, a lifetime if you will, immersed in the world of sports. First as a doctor caring for athletes and then as a mother raising them. I’ve had many, many experiences on both fronts but to be completely honest, the most challenging and rewarding has been watching my own little athletes grow, mature and find themselves in the process. I am a firm believer that involving your children in sports shapes them in ways no other youth opportunity can…but that’s a topic for another day, or maybe 3 or 4. Right now I want to tell you why I’ve started my blog.
I’ve thought for a while that I would like to share my story. I know there are many Moms and Dads out there that just don’t know where to begin. They have children that want to play but they don’t know how to get the ball rolling. Then there are those of you whose kids want to play in college and beyond. How about those of you that are raising the “stud” and those of you that are raising the “program player”? Let’s not forget that sports are for everyone, so if you are raising a special needs athlete, there’s plenty here for you too. My education is a critical part of my development and because of that, I have passed along the importance of an education to my children. In general, I plan on touching on just about everything that impacts young athletes and their families. We’ll talk fairness in team sports, coaches, playing time, time management, priorities, family life, health, nutrition, training, the recruiting process and beyond. I’ll touch on it all because I have experienced it all and would like to share my experiences with you…and maybe help a little as you take your journey through this amazing process of raising athletes of all levels. Please join me as we take this walk together.
